Our Story
Profoundly Hospitable, Everyone is Welcome Here
Elizabeth Smith is a chef with a deep command of her craft and a restless curiosity for how things are made — whether that’s a perfect pasta dough, a salt-cured citrus, or a knife that feels just right in your hand. Over the past 15 years, she has trained in some of the most respected kitchens in the world, including Chez Panisse, Fatted Calf, and the three-Michelin-star Noma, where she learned fermentation and foraged with one of the best in the field.
She’s earned a reputation for her exacting standards and quiet expertise — the kind that makes her as comfortable breaking down a side of pork as she is teaching someone how to hold a chef’s knife for the first time. Her work is less about impressing and more about understanding — what ingredients want to become, what people need from a meal, and how food can turn into something worth remembering.
That same spirit now shapes her latest venture, Highlow Larder, where she brings her lifetime of cooking into a space built for gathering, learning, and sharing — without ego, without shortcuts, and always with care.
